Hazleton Man Dies in Multi Vehicle Crash on Interstate 81

A Hazleton man died in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 81 Friday afternoon.

Around 3:40pm, emergency personnel were called to the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 between 131 and 139 for a multi-vehicle.

In all, 32 vehicles, including tractors trailers were reported to have been involved in the crash.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, one person died in the crash, 23 injured were taken to area hospital, and 3 of those were life flighted.

Police identifed the man who died as Charles Ehrenberg, 55, of Hazleton.

The northbound lanes were closed during cleanup and investigation but later open overnight into Saturday.

Snow squalls and white out conditions have been reported to have caused the crash.
