Two Charged with Theft of Electricity in Shenandoah

As reported from the Shenandoah Police Department Facebook page

Police have filed charges against Santos Torres and Christina Ponce for theft of services with respect to an investigation conducted by Shenandoah Police and PP&L.

On February 11, 2014 Shenandoah Police were contacted by a revenue recovery agent from PP&L regarding the theft. The agent indicated that the meter at 402 West Oak St. had been tampered with to steal electricity. PP&L estimated that Torres and Ponce stole 6,075 KWH since November 19, 2012. The total value of electricity stolen was determined to be $546.70. The total value of damage to the meter was $336.51.

For Torres, this is not the first time he has been charged by Shenandoah Police for stealing electricity. In August of 2013, he was charged in a similar incident in which $3,927.00 worth of electricity had been stolen at another borough property. Those felony charges were recently waived at a preliminary hearing and are awaiting disposition at the Schuylkill County Courthouse.
