Apartment Fire in Tamaqua Displaces Families

Posted from TamaquaArea.com

As of 3:15am, Tamaqua Police Officers were still on scene investigating an apartment fire that displaced multiple families in downtown Tamaqua Wednesday Evening.

Tamaqua firefighters were called around 10:30 PM to 14 West Broad Street for a report of a third floor fire at apartment number 5.

Scanner traffic said responding police officers observed smoke coming from the third floor apartment.

Firefighters, who neighbors said arrived within seconds of the call, were seen carrying large fans. No damage could be seen from the outside of the apartment building.

Tamaqua Fire Police closed both directions of the unit block of West Broad Street (US209) for about 30 minutes. The last fire company left the scene around 11:20 PM.

The Tamaqua Salvation Army offered a place to stay for two of the families in the apartment building, although both said they would be staying with family tonight.

Maria’s Check Cashing is located on the first floor of the apartment building. Schuylkill Parcel Locator lists Joseph Chamoun as the owner of the apartment building.
