A domestic incident yesterday (Monday, March 31, 2014) in Tamaqua ended with a Tamaqua man leading police on winding pursuit through parts of Tamaqua and a high-speed pursuit through Schuylkill Township.
Police were called to 114 Washington Street just before 5 PM for a domestic dispute between John Roberts, 42, and his wife.
Witnesses told TamaquaArea.com that Roberts ignored orders by Tamaqua Police to get on the ground. That is when they said Roberts sped away.
Tamaqua Police officers Matt Houser and Karl Harig (in separate vehicles) pursued Roberts through parts of Tamaqua’s north ward section and then west on US209. Roberts crashed his car into a tree along US209 in Schuylkill Township, about 5 miles west of the borough. After a short foot-chase, Roberts was taken into custody by officers.
After a video arraignment, Roberts was transported to Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville under $50,000 bail.
