Flash Flood Watch Issued for Schuylkill County

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Schuylkill County



FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE HAS EXPANDED THE * FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE A PORTION OF CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...COLUMBIA... SCHUYLKILL AND SULLIVAN.

* FROM 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING

* A SLOW MOVING FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL CROSS CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA TONIGHT AND FRIDAY. THE FRONT WILL TAP RICH SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE...PRODUCING TRAINING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS. RAINFALL ACROSS THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH AREA WILL AVERAGE BETWEEN ONE AND A HALF TO TWO AND A HALF INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.

* EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THE HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE RAPID RISES ON CREEKS AND STREAMS. FLASH FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY FOR AREAS THAT HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED EXCESSIVE RAINFALL IN RECENT DAYS. PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS AND FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS IS EXPECTED AS WELL.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
