Heisler's Cloverleaf Dairy, Celebrating It's 90th Anniversary in 2014

By Mark Marek from Coal Region Connections

90 YEARS AGO MORRIS HEISLER FOUNDED HEISLER'S CLOVERLEAF DAIRY, A RETAIL MILK DELIVERY BUSINESS.
The retail dairy & milk delivery business are a memory now, but Heisler's Dairy Bar & Miniature Golf continues as 1 of the coal region's top summer family attractions.

In 1957 Morris Heisler started making ice cream & opened the dairy bar. Shortly thereafter came an 18 hole miniature golf course, driving range, gift shop, arcade, & waffle house. Remember organ music Sunday evenings & the Easter Parades? Pictures below show Heisler's BEFORE the mini golf course, 1 of their Easter parades, milk delivery truck, & old Heisler milk bottles.

We clipped Heisler's coupons in the Evening Courier in the 60s for a 10 cent round of mini golf. We'd ask neighbors for their coupons & ventured out to Heisler's with a pocketful of dimes for an afternoon of fun. Still remember those thick, creamy milk shakes & root beer floats?

Morris passed away in 1982 at the age of 75. His widow Pearl closed the dairy & ended the milk delivery business in 1985. Pearl died in 1992 at the age of 83. Morris's nephew Len Ostergaard & his wife Ann continue the Heisler tradition. In 2003, the old mini golf was removed & 2 new 18 hole courses were constructed. The Waffle House is closed to the public & is used for private functions.

Tens of thousands of people visit Heisler's Dairy Bar every year in the beautiful Lewistown Valley between Tamaqua & Pottsville. Do you have a Heisler memory? Please COMMENT below.
