Illegal Dumping is becoming a problem at Schuylkill County Recyclable locations.
Years ago, Schuylkill County began setting up recyclable location around Schuylkill County boroughs.
More recently these sits have begun being locations for illegal dumping. Even at times when the bins are empty, people are dumping their recyclables outside the bins rather than depositing them into them.
Just this week, the Mahanoy Twp. Police Department posted the following to their Facebook page.
Due to the recent overflow of recyclables at the Township building. We asked that you be courteous and recycle in moderation. If the recycle dumpsters are full please return another day. LEAVING ANY MATERIAL ON THE GROUND IS ILLEGAL DUMPING AND VIOLATORS WILL BE CITED. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO BE ON TOWNSHIP PROPERTY AFTER DUSK. Township property is monitored by video surveillance 24/7. If this continues to happen recycle dumpsters could be taken away. Thank you everyone who has used the dumpsters the correct way.
As you can see in the images below that were taken by the Mahanoy Twp. Police Department, the illegal dumping has begun to get out of hand and boroughs are beginning to take action against it.
Mahanoy Twp monitors the Recyclable location, which is directly behind their headquarters, via cameras.
Ashland Borough has installed cameras that monitor the drop off area to catch anyone dumping their recyclables and garbage. They are also known to lock the area when any of the bins are full.
