Driver Taken into Custody After Crash in Tamaqua Wednesday Night

A male driver was taken into custody by Tamaqua Police late last night (Wednesday, September 24, 2014) after crashing his car into another vehicle and shearing a utility pole along the 200 block of Center Street (SR309) in Tamaqua.

Observers on scene stated that the male (driving a black Kia Forte) was traveling north on SR309 around 11:35 PM when, for some reason, he struck the passenger rear side of a grey Subaru Forrester, also traveling north on SR309. The impact resulted in the Kia snapping a utility pole across from Mike’s Cars and Truck car lot on Center Street. In addition, flying debris from the pole smashed into the back window of a parked Ford Escape along 233 Center Street.

No serious injuries were observed with either driver.

Neighbors said that the pole was less than a year old.

Police officers on scene were Corporal Dwayne Hacker and patrolman Joseph Krebs.

Responding in addition to police were Tamaqua Ambulance, Citizen’s Fire Company and South Ward Fire Company. Tamaqua Fire Police directed traffic around the scene. Hope’s Towing removed the Kia.

Emergency or temporary repairs to the snapped utility pole are expected to be done today.
