On Saturday, Centralia opened a time capsule buried almost 50 years ago.
In 1966, the Centralia chapter of the American Legion buried a time capsule in the yard of the group's old building and planned to open it on July 4, 2016.
Back in May, the time capsules marker was tampered with, so the decision was made to open the capsule early.
When the vault was opened, they found the items inside the capsule floating in water but nothing was tampered with. With some of the items wet and moldy, they dried out the items and set to give them back to the families' of the original owners
On Saturday, at the Centralia-Wilburton American Legion, they returned those items.
