Coal Region Connections: 60 Years Ago This Month A Coal Region Rock Band Made It's Debut

60 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH A COAL REGION ROCK BAND MADE ITS DEBUT & ROSE QUICKLY TO NATIONAL PROMINENCE. Click LIKE if you have fond memories of the JORDAN BROTHERS & tell us your special Jordan Brothers memory.

Frank & Joe Jordan began their 31 year music career on Halloween Eve, 1954. A little later brothers Bobby & Lew were recruited, & the duo became a quartet. Wherever they went--be it a high school gym or dance hall--the Jordan Brothers packed in the crowds & had fans begging for more. Remember when they played at the Alley, Willow Lake, Hugo's, Lakeside Ballroom, the 83 Rollerama, Hamburg Field House, & Renninger's in Orwigsburg? Willow Lake was their longest-running gig spanning 15 years from 1962-1977. Recall any other Jordan Brothers venues where you saw the group perform?

The Jordan Brothers were TV regulars back in the day--performing with DJs Ed Hurst & Joe Grady on Atlantic City's Steel Pier show. They were featured on Jerry Blavatt's show--Philly's "Geator with the Heator. They were on Dick Clarks' American Bandstand 3 times & were headliners on Dick Clark's 49 day "Caravan of Stars" that toured the US & Canada. The Jordan Brothers were often on the same stage as The Drifters, Bobby Rydell, Paul Anka, The Coasters, The Skyliners, & LaVerne Baker to name a few.

31 years...42 recordings...15 record labels--that's quite a legacy for a coal region band. The Jordan Brothers 1966 hit "Gimme Some Lovin'" was #1 on many music charts across the country. Maxim Furek wrote a 231 page book about the Jordan Brothers. It was published by Kimberly Press in 1986. More info about the Jordan Brothers can be found at www.thejordanbrothers.com.

This Saturday night from 7-10, take a trip down memory lane at Jerry's Classic Cars & Collectibles Museum at 394 S. Centre Street in Pottsville. "A Night at the Museum with Frank Jordan" will be held to raise money for a local charity. Tickets are $20.
