Officials announced Friday morning in Mahanoy City that the borough will receive $420,000 in grant money to demolish the former Kaier's Brewery and redevelop the area into a community park and playground.
According to the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, Mahanoy City is the first municipality in Pennsylvania to have a dedicated blight-remediation fund set aside.
Senator David G. Argall, Representative Neal Goodman, Borough Manager Dan Lynch, and former Deputy Secretary of the PA Dept. of Community and Econominic Development Champ Holman were on had to present the check.
