WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM WEDNESDAY TO MIDNIGHT
EST WEDNESDAY NIGHT...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM
WEDNESDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE WINTER STORM WATCH
IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
* LOCATIONS...THE POCONOS...SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY AND SOUTH CENTRAL
MOUNTAINS...INCLUDING THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS.
* HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...4 TO 8 INCHES. THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS WILL BE
IN THE POCONOS AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY
NORTH OF HARRISBURG. THE LOWER AMOUNTS WILL BE IN THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS SOUTH OF HARRISBURG.
* TIMING...A MIX OF SNOW AND RAIN WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHERN
PENNSYLVANIA LATE TONIGHT...BUT QUICKLY TURN TO ALL SNOW AS IT
MOVES TO THE NORTH OF THE TURNPIKE BEFORE SUNRISE. THE RAIN AND
SNOW IN THE FAR SOUTHERN TIER WILL TURN TO ALL SNOW IN THE
MORNING. THE SNOW WILL BE HEAVIEST DURING THE MORNING AND EARLY
AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF IN THE LATE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING.
* IMPACTS...SNOW COVERED ROADS. SIGNIFICANT IMPACT TO HOLIDAY
TRAVEL. TRAVEL WILL BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND IS NOT
ADVISABLE DURING LATE TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING.
* WINDS...NORTH AT 5 TO 10 MPH.
* TEMPERATURES...GENERALLY IN THE LOWER 30S...EXCEPT MID 30S IN
SOUTHERN YORK AND LANCASTER COUNTIES.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
TRAVEL IS DISCOURAGED LATE TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING. YOU MAY
NEED TO CHANGE TRAVEL PLANS IF POSSIBLE TO AVOID THE HEAVIEST OF
THE SNOW. SNOWFALL RATES OF MORE THAN AN INCH PER HOUR ARE
POSSIBLE AT TIMES. SNOW THAT INTENSE WILL MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR
ROAD CREWS TO KEEP THE ROADS CLEAR.
