The Mahanoy City Police Department is reporting that approximately 100 gallons of fuel oil spilled into the borough's sewer system on Monday afternoon.
Residents on the west side of town were reportedly experiencing a strong odor of the oil in their homes, mainly on Market Street.
The Mahanoy City Fire Department's West End and Humane are monitoring air quality and working on the problem.
The Police Department advises anyone who has smelled the odor in their home can open their windows to eliminate the odor and cover any floor drains where the odor may be coming from.
