Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks), Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman and other local officials are teaming up for a forum on Wednesday in Pottsville to discuss strategies to fight blight.
The forum will be held in Courtroom No. 6/Juror Lounge at the Schuylkill County Courthouse, 401 North Second Street, Pottsville at 6 p.m.
Argall and Holman have invited representatives from the Pennsylvania Association of Building Code Officials to join them to provide tips on enhancing municipal code enforcement. The Schuylkill County Housing Authority will give a presentation on Section 8 guidelines to give officials and the public a better understanding of that program. The event is going to focus on aggressive code enforcement and housing issues.
“Several state laws are designed to help counties and municipalities fight blight, but it takes participation from individuals at all levels of government to effect real change,” Argall said. “I’m looking forward to teaming up with District Attorney Holman and several groups and officials to provide more information on how to continue the war on blight in all corners of our county.”
“I believe it’s important to meet on a regular basis so our code officers and elected officials stay motivated,” Holman said. “Sharing ideas with one another is an effective way to problem solve – if something works in one community, it could work in others.”
Argall and Holman encourage mayors, council members, township supervisors, solicitors, code enforcement officers, police chiefs and the public to attend.
