Fire Crews Protect Homes from Brush Fire Overnight

An overnight brush fire, Tuesday into Wednesday, threatened homes in West Mahanoy Township.

Tuesday evening, a brush fire that reportedly began along Route 924, Ringtown Boulevard had burned and threatened homes along Texas Ave. in Shenandoah Heights.

Fire crews from across Schuylkill County were called to not only fight the growing brush fire but to also protect the homes as well.  The fire also reportedly threatened a nearby cemetery.

Windy conditions helped fuel the fire but crews were able to fight the blaze and get it under control overnight.

No word on what caused the fire.

Fire crews from Shenandoah, Shenandoah Heights, Frackville, Fountain Springs, Lavelle, Mahanoy City, Ashland, Girardville, and St. Clair were called to aid in fighting the fire or protect the nearby structures.  A tanker task force was also called.

E583 & T587 assisted. On a large brush in Shenandoah Heights last nite. Our crews operated for almost 4 hours
