Have a great potato recipe? Do you have best chocolate cake in Schuylkill County? On certain days of the Schuylkill County Fair you may enter special food contest. Monetary awards will be given for first, second and third prize. The general public is encouraged to participate in one or all of the contests listed below. PA Preferred Cookie Brownie or Bar Baking Contest
Bring your cookies, brownies or bars to the fair Saturday July 25 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. This contest is open to youth 8-18 only. The exhibit is a plate of 6 cookies, brownies or bars featuring chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient, with a minimum of 1 PA Preferred product used and listed in the recipe. Awards are 1st-$20, 2nd-$15, and 3rd-$10. First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schuylkill County Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show complex in January, 2016.
Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest
Baseball, hotdogs and apple pie! What is more American than that? Make an apple pie and include 60% apples in the filling for this contest. It does not need to be a “traditional” two crust apple pie and it can have a variety in the filling. Bring your pie to the fairgrounds Saturday, July 25 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. Awards are 1st-$15, 2nd-$12, and 3rd-$10. First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schuylkill County Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show complex in January, 2016.
PA Preferred Chocolate Cake Baking Contest
Calling all choc-alcoholics! Enter a beautiful layered chocolate cake as your exhibit into this contest. The cake recipe must feature chocolate or cocoa as a man ingredient, with at least 1 PA preferred ingredient identified with its brand name used in and listed in the recipe. Bring your item to the fair Saturday, July 25 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. Awards are 1st-$25, 2nd-$20, and 3rd-$15. First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schuylkill County Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show complex in January, 2016.

Pennsylvania’s INCREDIBLE Angel Food Cake Contest
Nothing is lighter, airier, or fluffier than a PA Preferred Angel Food Cake. Made from scratch with PA Preferred eggs it is a refreshing dessert for you to enjoy on a hot summer evening. The cake can be decorated or filed. Bring your cake to the fair Saturday, July 25 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. Awards are 1st-$25, 2nd-$20, and 3rd-$15. .
First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schuylkill County Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show complex in January, 2016.

Cupcake Wars
Who can create the best cupcake from scratch? There are two opportunities to do so in this contest. One set of cupcakes will be judged for taste and the other on presentation. The exhibitor must submit 6 cupcakes of the same kind to be judged. The theme for this contest is “Treasure the Memories of Our Roots.” Bring your item to the fair Saturday, July 25 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. Awards are 1st-$15, 2nd-$10, and 3rd-$5.
Vegetable Food Contest
Mother always said to eat your vegetables. Mom was right, but you don’t have to take them off the plate looking like vegetables. Enter the baked vegetable food contest. Submit your vegetables in a baked product like a cake, pie, quick bread, cookie, or candy. Bring your item to the fair Saturday, July 25 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. Awards are 1st-$15, 2nd-$10, and 3rd-$5.
Let’s Use Honey
Your “Honey” is calling! Enter a baked good that includes honey in the recipe. It might be a cake, cookie, pie, quick bread, or let your imagination run with any other baked good. Bring your item to the fair Saturday, July 26 between the hours of 11AM to 3PM. Awards are 1st-$15, 2nd-$10, and 3rd-$5.
Schuylkill County Wine Contest
Schuylkill County has a number of wineries and they produce some very fine wines. Why not be creative with the use of wine in a dessert that serves 6 and enter it into the fair? The dessert of your choice must contain minimum of 4 oz. of any Schuylkill County wine in the recipe. Exhibitors must be 21 years or older to compete. The dessert must be brought to the fairgrounds PA Preferred Culinary Connection area Tuesday, July 28 by 5PM. Awards are 1st-$30, 2nd-$20, and 3rd-$15.
Ethnic Foods Contest
Ethnic diversity is a rich part of Schuylkill County. The ethnic food contest exemplifies the diversity in Schuylkill County. Any ethnic food from the Schuylkill County region may be entered. Categories include main dish, vegetable, or dessert. It is to be brought to the fairgrounds ready to serve on Wednesday, July 29 at 5PM to the PA Preferred Culinary Connection. Awards are 1st-$30, 2nd-$20, and 3rd-$15.
Schuylkill Grown Cooking Contest
This contest is to be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 6PM. The contest is open to both youth and adult with two categories. Adult is to prepare a soup and the youth under 18 is to prepare a quick bread. The recipe must provide a family size serving and be brought to the ready to serve the judges by 6:15Pm. This contest is to showcase Schuylkill Grown Products. The recipe must include a minimum of 3 Schuylkill Gown ingredients. First, second and third prize packages will be awarded and the top 5 participants will receive a Schuylkill Grown T-shirt.
Kids Cupcake Challenge
Kids and cooking create a great combination for mayhem! This contest is open to children ages up to 9 years of age and a category of age 9 to 16. Each exhibitor must provide their own ingredients, and cookware to prepare and serve. Recipes must provide 5 servings with no pre-mixing or cooking. Cooking is done on site therefore no baked goods can be made for the contest. This contest will be held Tuesday, July 28 starting at 1:30PM. Awards are 1st-$20, 2nd-$15, 3rd-$10.
Boilo Contest
Champaign of the coal crackers! As we “Harvest the fun,” we cannot forget where we come from by celebrating our regional home brewed beverage. This contest is open adults 21 years of age or older. Beverages are brought to the fairgrounds Wednesday, July 30 at 7:30 to the PA Preferred Culinary Connection area. Beverages must be brought to the fairgrounds in a sealed container. There two classes within this contest. They are Boilo, and Apple-pie Boilo. Awards are 1st-$20, 2nd-15, and 3rd-$10.
Participants in each contest will be admitted to the fair free with their entry.
