Brewed in PA - the Pennsylvania State Beer Festival will feature over 50 breweries from across the Keystone State at an annual beer event that's all about Pennsylvania. Beer drinkers will have a chance to sample beer and learn about breweries from all over PA, some brews, event organizers hope their guests will be tasting for the very first time. "It makes sense to have a Pennsylvania specific beer festival" explains Dave Weidler, Wilder Entertainment Group and the festival's founder. "PA is near the top of any nationwide list for both beer production and consumption, and Pennsylvanians are proud of that. We're pretty lucky to have an event that's only pouring beer from Pennsylvania, not every state could do that." The first year event will take place on Saturday October 17th from 2pm-6pm at the Santander Performing Arts Center in downtown Reading. Tickets to Brewed in PA are $50 and go on sale Thursday, September 3rd at 10 AM. They will be made available at the VF Outlet Box Office located at the Santander Arena, all ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com and charge by phone at 800.745.3000.
A portion of all ticket sales will be given to the restoration project of a statue in Reading, the city's oldest. Organizers will donate $10 from every ticket purchased to help repair the monument of an American brewing pioneer and lawmaker Frederick Lauer, which was vandalized in Reading's City Park this past April. Lauer, born in Bavaria, successfully owned and operated a brewery in Reading from 1835 to 1882, and was later elected the first president of the United States Brewers' Association. Brewers of Pennsylvania, the state's official brewers' guild, is spearheading the restoration effort. "It's a great feeling to host an event for people who love beer that's brewed in PA", says Victor Hurdle, president of Brew Crew Events and the festival's producer. "Partnering with the Brewers of Pennsylvania to repair the Frederick Lauer statue lets us honor his legacy and our state's great tradition of brewing that much more." Hurdle, a Reading native, is hosting his second annual Reading Craft Beer Festival at the Santander Arena Saturday April 16th, 2016.
