National School Choice Week promotes community awareness about the range K-12 educational opportunities available within the community, including: Traditional Public Educational Institutions, Public Charter, Private Parochial, and Cyber schools as well as homeschooling options. Tara Cromis from Gillingham Charter School and Roobhenn Smith from Saint Joseph’s Center presented information to the committee regarding the educational opportunities they provide. “Traditional public education is not for every child, so we are fortunate to have a variety of educational alternatives available in K-12,” said Shannon Brennan, Educational Committee Chairperson for the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce.
National School Choice Week was started in 2011 by parents who believed strongly in the need for alternative options for their children and the movement has grown to include thousands of participants.
