Short Track Super Series ‘Anthracite Assault’ Postponed At Big Diamond Speedway

MINERSVILLE, PA. – The weather certainly has not been a favorable one for race fans in northeastern Pennsylvania since the calendar turned to the month of May.

As of late last week, the forecast was for sunny skies and highs in the 70s for tonight's Short Track Super Series event.

Instead, race fans woke up today to weather conditions more like November with highs in the 40s and rain, forcing Big Diamond Speedway to postpone the race combined North/South STSS event presented by H.B. Steele & Co., to its scheduled rain date of Tuesday, May 17.

Big Diamond Speedway and STSS made the decision early this morning based on the radar and showers that were predicate throughout the day. The early-morning announcement was made with respect to the teams and fans who had to travel a distance to get to the speedway.

Next Tuesday’s race will see the debut of the STSS Open Sportsman division. Also on the card will be the 600 modifieds.

The track will attempt to get its first Friday show in after two straight weeks of rainouts as the ARDC midgets invade the speedway for the first of two events this year. Former Bloomsburg resident John Heydenreich will be in competition with ARDC at the speedway for the first time in several years.

The midgets will join the CJ’s Tire & Automotive Services 358 modifieds, Savage 61 roadrunners, No Sweat Service Group street stocks and the Blast from the Past Vintage Modifieds.

On Friday, the gates will open at 5:30 with warm-ups at 7:45 and racing gets underway at 8:15. General admission is $18, seniors, $16 and kids’ 12-and-and-under and active military with a valid ID are free.
