He was born on Tuesday, January 2, 1934, in Mahonoy City, a son of the late John R Burkey and the late Mary E Parfitt Burkey.
He served in the 4th Tank Regt of the US Army.
Bill was a heavy equipment operator, mechanic, and welder for Pavex, Inc., York, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Most Blessed Trinity Parish, Tremont.
He was also a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
His wife Christine A Markovski Burkey passed away in 2002.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and his wife were a son, Mark Andrew Burkey; six sisters, Zelma Reinsel, Margaret Anzur, Mary Petrock, Jesse Lindenmuth, Edna Clifford, and Shirley Stamm; and five brothers, Daniel Burkey, Paul Burkey, John Burkey, Clarence Burkey, and Joseph Burkey.
He is survived by a daughter, Rosanna C Burkey of Hershey; two sons, Dennis A Burkey and his wife Linda of Schuylkill Haven and Thomas W Burkey of Valley View; three grandsons, Michael Burkey, Jeffrey Burkey, and Alexander W Burkey; a granddaughter, Samantha Burkey; a great grandson, Michael Burkey; a great granddaughter, Michele Burkey; his close friend, Bernice Wetzel of Tremont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Blessed Trinity Parish, Tremont, on Tuesday, December 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., with The Rev Jason Stokes as celebrant.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Parish.
Burial with Military Honors will be made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Most Blessed Trinity Parish, 113 Cherry Street, Tremont PA 17981.

Lois J. Schoffler, age 73, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Friday, December 16th, 2016 at Phoenixville Hospital.
Born in Pottsville, PA on September 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Esther (Graser) Roberts.
Lois was a graduate of Pottsville High School, Class of 1961. She worked for Dixon Company in Deerlake.
Lois was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the AMVETS, both of Pottsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leo Schoffler in 2001, 2 sons: Allen Schoffler and Lindy Donton, a sister Dorothy Donton, and a brother Maurice Roberts.
Lois is survived by 2 daughters: Lisa Schoffler, Royersford and Linda Donton, Cressona; 5 grandchildren: Ashlie, Allen II, Felicia, Travis, and Bryanna; 2 great-grandchildren: Avah and Allen Thomas; a sister Carol Rye, Tenn; and nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon at 11AM on Thursday, December 22nd, with Rev. Lorraine Heckman officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday morning from 10-11AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be held private.

Philomena M. Lipshaw, age 81, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Monday, December 19th, 2016 at Ridgeview Health Services, Shenandoah Heights, PA.
Born in Mackeysburg, Cass Township on January 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Aloysius and Anna (O'Boyle) Tobin.
Philomena was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School, Class of 1952. She was employed at the Pennsylvania National Bank and then the M&T Bank in Pottsville.
Philomena was a member of the St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Clair and the former Immaculate Conception Church in St. Clair.
Philomena was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all animals including her dog Roxie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Aloysius Tobin and a sister Catherine Campion.
Philomena is survived by her husband of 59 years, George J. Lipshaw Sr, a daughter Eileen Sheehan and her husband Jim, three sons: George Lipshaw Jr and his wife Janet, David Lipshaw and his wife Christine, and Scott Lipshaw and his wife Kelly, all of Port Carbon; six grandchildren: Brandon Sheehan, Collegeville, Lauren Sheehan, Pottsville, Reba Lipshaw, Port Carbon, Cheyan Lipshaw, Pottsville, Devin and Kaylin Lipshaw, Port Carbon; two great-grandchildren: Colin and Ryan Sheehan; four sisters: Jean Albertini, Norwegian Twp, Elizabeth Lavis, Orefield, Ann Marie Urmanavage, Minersville, and Rose Koppenhaver, Wilmington, DE; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church in St. Clair at 10:30AM on Friday, December 23rd, with Msgn William Glosser officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday morning from 8-10AM at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon.

Melanie R Heinbach, 61, Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at home.
Born on January 5, 1955 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late John J Sr. and Mary Kostura Jefferson.
She was a 1973 graduate of Pottsville High School.
Melanie was a Tax Collector for Washington Township and also a Longaberger Consultant.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. "Bill" Jefferson.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Keith Heinbach; two sons, Brett Heinbach and Drew Heinbach; a granddaughter, Mariah Heinbach, all of Pine Grove; two sisters, Patricia Piaskowski of Florida, Maureen McCormac of New Jersey; four brothers, John Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson, James Jefferson, all of Pottsville, Brian Jefferson of Tremont, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

George Zaharis, 67, of Saint Clair, passed away on Tuesday at home.
Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary Zventerikos Zaharis. He was a 1967 graduate of Minersville Area High School.
A lifelong musician, he was a percussionist and vocalist for numerous area bands, The Illusions, The Poets, Still Rockin’ and, most recently, Autumn Jam and Chase. He owned and operated the Golden Greek’s store in Arnots Addition until 2008.
He was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing; and he was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
George was preceded in death by a step-grandson, Shawn Day, in 2013; three siblings, Harry Zaharis, Thomas Zaharis and Irene Laskarithis.
He is survived by his wife, the former Pauline Magic, to whom he was married for 36 years; a daughter, Kristina Marie Zaharis and her husband, Michael Sullivan, Saint Clair; a step-grandson, Ethan Sullivan; two brothers, Wilson Zaharis and his wife, Mary Louise, Saint Clair, and Peter Zaharis and his fiancée, Bonnie Shadler, Minersville; nieces and nephews.
