A graduate of St. Jerome Regional School, Joseph worked in the Automotive industry, retiring from Mack Trucks, Allentown.
He was a member of Holy Cross R.C.C. of New Philadelphia.
He enjoyed camping, watching and discussing the NASCAR races with his granddaughter Amanda. He was a former points champion at Dorney Park Speedway.
Born in Pottsville February 14, 1935 he was a son of the Late Joseph and Emma (Brozatti) Protivnak
Joseph was the widower of LaRue (Ford) Protivnak who passed in 2013; he was also predeceased by Brother, Michael "Butch" Protivnak.
He is survived by his; Daughter, Diane Protivnak and her fiance Ed Pollack of Mary-D; Son, Joseph S. Protivnak and his wife Bethann of Cumbola; Two grandchildren, Amanda, and Cory; One great-grandchild, His can crushing buddy, Ava LaRue; Sister, Theresa Fabrizio; A Niece and nephews also survive him.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PMSunday, February 19,, 2017 and from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM Monday, February 20, 2017.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross R.C.C., 37 Clay Street, New Philadelphia, Pa., at 10:30 AM Monday, February 20, 2017, Rev. Ronald Minner to officiate.
Interment will be at Sky-View Memorial Park in Tamaqua, Pa.
