Stephen J. Minahan, Sr., 71 of Mahanoy Plane, PA passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. Born in Ashland, PA on June 23, 1945 he was the son of the late James E. and Elizabeth A. Meade Minahan. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a member of the former Holy Rosary Church, Mahanoy Plane. He was a 1963 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and worked at Gilberton Coal Company. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and his dog and best friend Coal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Weikel Minahan who died in July 2004. Also preceding him in death was a sister: Mary Anne Lomas, wife of George, and a brother: James Minahan.
He is survived by a son and daughter: Stephen Minahan Jr., husband of Stacey; and Kelly Sommers, wife of Mike. One brother and one sister: John Minahan; and Betsy George, wife of Lloyd. Four grandchildren: Michael Sommers; Kylie Sommers; Stephen Minahan; and Brady Minahan. Nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, Pa with Rev. Paul Rothermel, officiating.
Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Frackville, PA. Viewing Thursday, March 16, 2017 6:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home. Betty M. Zechman, 88, of Pine Grove, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.
Born on April 27, 1928 in Pine Grove Twp., she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Margaret Bohr Aungst.
Betty was an Assistant Cook at Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reserve.
She was a member of Outwood Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. She was also a member of the Cressona Chapter 367 Order of the Eastern Star and former Mary E. Moore Chapter 372 Order of the Eastern Star, Pine Grove.
Preceding her in death were her first husband Willard Schaeffer in 1946; second husband, Ralph J. Zechman, Sr.in 1973; a companion, Jack Snyder; and three sisters, June Rumpf, Ruth Ann Fidler and Mary Philumalee.
Surviving are a daughter, LaRue Tice Lenard of Jackson, TN; three sons, Ralph Jr. and wife Sue Zechman of Grantville, Leon and wife Myra Zechman and Kenneth and wife Lori Zechman, both of Pine Grove; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; four sisters, Marguerite Zimmerman, Corrine Klinger, Doris Moyer, all of Pine Grove, Claire Leisey of Florida; a brother, Allen Aungst of Pine Grove, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Noon at the Outwood Lutheran Church, 934 Oak Grove Rd., Pine Grove with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a viewing on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the Church with Eastern Star services at 11:45 A.M.. Interment will follow in Outwood Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.
