Blown Roadwork Sign Leads to Fuel Spill

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, a blown sign caused an accident on Interstate 81 on Wednesday, June 21st.

Police say Erik Hultquist, of Coopersburg, PA and Rasul Dursunov, of Missouri City, TX, were travelling southbound in separate vehicles on Interstate 81 in New Castle Township.

Hultquist was driving a Ford F-150 while Dursunov was driving a Volvo tractor trailer.

Hultquist was hauling a roadwork sign when it came loose and a section of the frame fell to on the highway.

Dursunov who was travelling behind Hultquist drove over the metal frame  when one of the saddlebag diesel full tanks ruptured spilling between 200-250 gallons of diesel fuel on to the roadway and should of the road.

Hultquist initially stopped to help with cleanup but left the scene without providing any of the required identification to authorities.

Unsecured Flatbad Trailer Comes Loose on Interstate 81

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, around 4:30pm on Wednesday, June 21st, Reynaldo Castillo, 55, of Drums was travelling southbound in the left lane of Interstate 81, in West Mahanoy Township towing a steel flatbed car carrier trailer with no car on it.

Police say the trailer was incorrectly attached and came loose.

The trailer crossed the grassy center median and both southbound lanes then struck, knocked down, and bounced off a large highway construction sign.

The trailer then re-entered the northbound lanes, rolling over once, and resting on it's wheels in the northbound passing lane on the Route 61 overpass bridge at milemarker 124.

No other vehicles were struck by the trailer during the incident.
