Man Charged with Starting Ashland Dumpster Fire

A man was taken into custody on Tuesday for starting a dumpster in late October.


On Tuesday, October 31st, 2017, emergency personnel were called to the 1000 Block of Pine Street in Ashland for a dumpster fire.

Upon arrival, the Ashland Fire Department personnel were able to extinguish the fire inside the dumpster without damage to the nearby garage or motorcycle.

Ashland Police interviewed neighbors at the scene where they reported seeing Terrance Stephens, 49,  of Ashland, in the area about 45 minutes prior.

The next day, Ashland Police interviewed Stephens where he admitted starting the fire and said he so so by putting a cigarette in the dumpster because he was angry with his current living conditions.

On Tuesday, 11/14/17, Stephens was taken into custody on charges of arson and other charges and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 straight cash bail.
