Mahanoy Township Water Authority Customers Asked to Conserve Water

On Friday, the Mahanoy Township Water Authority notified it's customers that due to drought conditions, the Mahanoy Township Authority is activating Stage 1 of their Drought Contingency Plan.

Stage 1 prohibits all Non-Essential Water Uses in the service area.

The Emergency Service Area includes Mahanoy Township, Mahanoy City and Gilberton Borough.

This declaration is due to combined water levels in the Authority’s reservoirs being less than 55% capacity system wide.  If conditions do not improve over the next several days a water rationing plan may be implemented so cooperation at this time is essential

The following water uses are declared non-essential and are prohibited within the Emergency Service Area:
  • watering of lawns
  • outdoor gardens
  • landscaped areas
  • trees
  • shrubs and other outdoor plants
  • washing of automobiles and trucks
  • washing of streets, driveways and sidewalks;
  • serving water in restaurants, clubs or eating places unless specifically requested by the individual

In addition all means of conservation methods should be utilized by all customers to reduce overall usage by a minimum of 15%.

For more details on the non-essential water uses and suggested conservations methods, please visit the Authority website at www.mahanoywater.org or pick-up information by stopping by the Mahanoy Township Authority’s main office at 46 North Main Street; Mahanoy City, during normal business hours.
