Bertha Loftus, 84, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Monday, December 25th, suddenly, at the home of her son.

Bertha was born in Mahanoy City, PA on August 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Arvesta (Houser) and George Smulligan.

Bertha graduated from Mahanoy Township High School class of 1951.

She was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City.

She worked at the Mahanoy City Cigar Factory and retired from Service Electric Mahanoy City.

She was wife of the late John Loftus.

Bertha is survived by a daughter, Susan, of Nesquehoning; four sons John, of Frackville; David, of Mahanoy City; Patrick, of Mahanoy City; Kenneth, of Mahanoy City; and by a sister, Theresa Urso, of Lansford, and a brother, Paul, of Mahanoy City;

She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren.

Proceeded in death by a daughter Debbie, and brothers George, Pete, Augustine, Andrew, Frank, John, and sisters Katherine, Mary, Elizabeth, Ulga, and Helen.

Eleanor Shucavage, 94 of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania. 

Widow of John F. Shucavage who passed away on November 24,1993, she is survived by: daughters, Marie Zehner wife of Robert of New Ringgold, Janice Fredericks wife of Thomas of Tamaqua; sons, Robert J. Shucavage of Tamaqua, Joseph Shucavage of Tamaqua; brother, Stanley Slotwinski and his wife Mary Ann of Warminster ; 6 grand children; 8 great grandchildren. 

A member of St. Peter & Paul R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Eleanor retired from the former Sprite manufacturing of Tamaqua. Eleanor enjoyed listening to Polkas and going out to eat with her family. 

Born Wednesday, February 21, 1923 in Mary-D, the daughter of the late Ignatz, and Eleanor (Tansky) Slotwinski. She was also predeceased by; sister, Rosie Slotwinski; brothers, Frank, and John Slotwinski.

Patricia J. Doerr, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, 73 years of age, a resident of Green Lane, Andreas, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on Monday, December 25, 2017, at home. 

Survived by her husband of thirty-seven years, Robert P. Doerr; sons, Brian Klusman and his wife Shaleen of Tamaqua, Robert Doerr of Philadelphia, and Michael Doerr and his wife Angela of Coaldale; daughters, Nancy Doerr of Lansford, Jennifer Boone wife of Jeff of Philadelphia; brother, Robert McNamee and his wife Diane of Philadelphia; eleven grandchildrn; eleven great grandchildren 

A graduate of Lourdes Mount High School, Scranton. Patricia retired from Sigma-Aldrich Coporation a Chemical Distribution Company in Fogelsville. 

Catholic by faith, Pat and her husband Robert traveled often to Ireland. She was a devoted animal lover and enjoyed the companionship of her dogs; Carson, and Finnegan. 

Born Wednesday, August 16, 1944 in Philadelphia the daughter of the late Vincent, and Marie (Gore) McNamee. She was also predeceased by; sister, Carol DiAscro; brother, Vincent McNamee.

Frank P. Romanelli, 88, Frackville, passed away peacefully Sunday at Broad Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Mary Joann Chiodo, 95, of Pottsville, passed away Sunday morning at York Terrace, Pottsville.

Born in Mt. Carbon on October 23, 1922, she was a daughter of thelate Rosa (Ferraiolo) and Antonio Chiodo.

She was a 1943 graduate of Pottsville High School and a member of St. Patrick R.C.C. and a member of the former St. Joseph Parish. At St. Patrick R.C.C. shebelonged to St. Pats Seniors.

Mary was a garment factory worker at Biever's, Schuylkill Havenfor over 40 years, retiring in 1982 and also a former beautician from her homeshop.

She was very active in the Pottsville community. She was amember of Catholic Daughters Santa Marta, where she served as past Presidentand secretary; Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, where she served aspast President; Sons of Italy; Good Sam Caring Corners; and BPW. She was a volunteer eucharistic minister at Good Samaritan Hospital and did miscellaneous volunteering through the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Carl, Anthony, Angelo, and Sam.

Mary is survived by a brother, John D. Chiodo, who she wasespecially close to and with whom she spent her entire life; sister-in-law,Ethel Pfleuger; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 29that 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C.C., 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville with Msgr. EdwardJ. O’Connor as celebrant.

A viewing will held on Friday morning at Lord-Bixler FuneralHome, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St. at 9:30 a.m until the procession willleave for church.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pottsville.

Gail D. Dolan, 77, of Minersville, passed away unexpectedly at Lehigh Valley Hospital -- Schuylkill, East on Christmas Eve.

Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Blum Heisler. She was a 1958 graduate of Pottsville High School, and has resided in Minersville since 1961. She spent her career in food service, having worked at the former Zula Grocery Store, at Way-Mart and at Plain & Fancy Donuts.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 48 years, Stephen Dolan, in 2009; her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and John Turner.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Horn, (spouse, Greg), Minersville; two granddaughters, Jessica Colna (spouse, Edward, Jr.), Minersville, and Amber Horn (fiancé, Joseph Wilson), Rockaway, New Jersey; four great-grandchildren, Camryn, Jason, Ava and Carter; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM from Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville. Friends may call from 6:00 AM. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. The family prefers contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ruth Bixler, 91, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017. She was born September 4, 1926, the daughter of Herbert and Flora (Densley) Holmes. She is the stepdaughter of Isaac Jayes.

Ruth was a seamstress and retired from the State of Pennsylvania, Dept. of Motor Vehicles. She is a member of the Tree of Life Lutheran Church, Harrisburg.

Ruth met her husband, Garvin Bixler, Sr. while he was in the service for World War II and was stationed in Leicester, England. They were married there on June 6, 1945. She came over to the United States on the ship SS Brazil along with 600 war brides on March 9, 1946 and because a U.S. Citizen.

Ruth was active for several years in the Harrisburg Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. She also volunteered at the Poly Clinic for several years and she was also the Chaplin of the Ladies Auxiliary for the American Legion, Post 1001 for many years.

Ruth is survived by her son, Garvin Jr. and wife LuAnn of Clarks Summit, PA; grandson, Garvin III and companion Nicole Truchan of Pittsburgh PA; one brother Garvin Jayes of England; two sister's in-law Maureen Jayes of Leicester, England; Dora Wertz of Muir, PA and by her long time companion, Harry Dolby of Harrisburg, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by husband; her parents and stepfather; two brothers, Dennis Holmes and Trevor Jayes, England; and one sister, Joyce Duncannon, PA.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29th at 2:30 pm from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc., Tower City with Pastor Annette Shutt. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery, Muir. Visitation will be from 2:00-2:30 at the chapel.

Jarrod Michael Orowski, 38, of Lykens, passed away Monday, December 25th at his home.

Born in Harrisburg, January 27, 1979, a son of Michael Orowski, Lykens and Robyn Nolen, Harrisburg.

Jarrod attended Upper Dauphin Area High School.

He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Lykens. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and a Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Michael Orowski; maternal grandmother, Roxanne Alleman; two nephews, Riley Kreiser and Jayce Hendricks.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Brooke Hendricks and her husband Dave, Mifflintown; one nephews, Hunter Hendricks; two nieces, Faith and Honor Hendricks; paternal grandmother; Joan Mahoney Orowski, Lykens; maternal great-grandmother, Mae Walkinshaw, Williamstown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 29th at 11:30 am from Our Lady Help of Christian Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Opoki as celebrant. Visitation will be from 11-11:30 at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Declen Joseph Bohner, 7 day old son of Brett Bohner and Chanel Shoop of Tower City died unexpectedly Friday, December 22nd.

Declen was born at the Hershey Medical Center on December 15th.

Surviving in addition to his mommy and daddy; are his brother, Ryan Stoneroad, Jr., at home; maternal grandparents, Deanna Webb, Bainbridge and Clint Shoop, Halifax; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Michelle Bohner, Williamstown; Maternal great grandparents, J. Michael and Linda Ingream, Tower City; Clifford Shoop, Paxions and Carol Witmer, Florida; Paternal Great Grandmother, Linda Romberger, Elizabethville; Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
