Alice Urban, 89, of Mahanoy City, passed away Wednesday, December 27th, at Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Alice was born in Mahanoy City, PA on March 9, 1928, a daughter of the late Priscilla (Mathews) and Pierce Urban.

She was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City.

Graduated from Mahanoy Twp High School and from Nursing School.

She worked as a traveling nurse and retired from the former Locust Mountain Hospital Shenandoah.

Alice is survived by Survived by a niece and nephew.

She is preceded in death by Brother Joseph who was killed in action in World War II, and a sister Violet Purcell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 11 am on Monday, January 8th, with Rev. Bill Linchorst officiating.

Friends may call Monday from 10 am at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish.

Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery Mahanoy City, PA.

Anne Marie (Yancius) Banaszewski, 91, of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Wednesday at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Mahanoy City, January 15, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Buchinsky) Yancius.

She was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.

Anne Marie was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and was a devout and active member of the former St. George’s Church, Shenandoah, where she belonged to St. George’s Guild. She was also a member of the Lithuanian Women’s Alliance Club. She was a fantastic baker and cook and enjoyed preparing dishes for her family and friends. She was also a skilled gardener who liked working in her yard. However, her family was of most importance to her; she was a loving and appreciative mother and grandmother.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Anthony Banaszewski, in 1982; a son, John Banaszewski, in 2011; three brothers, John, Joseph and Albert Yancius; a sister, Helen Yancius.

Surviving are three sons, Paul Banaszewski, Camp Hill, Joseph Banaszewski and his wife, Kelly, Collegeville, and Anthony Banaszewski and his wife, Patricia, Kensington, Md.; three daughters, Annette Banaszewski, at home, Mary Fore and her husband, Ron, Shenandoah, and Ann Banaszewski, at home; nine grandchildren, John, Julia, Aimee, Lauren, Sarah, Jennifer, Briana, Amanda and Jeremy; seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning in St. Casimir’s Church, Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights, where she will join her loving husband, Anthony.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
