Northern Schuylkill County firefighters started the new year fighting a fire in Gilberton.
Just after 10:00am, Monday, fire crews were called to 128 Main Street, Gilberton, for a working structure fire.
A Fire Marshall was first on scene and quickly upgraded the fire to a 2nd alarm and requested a tanker task force.
Fire crews from all over northern Schuylkill County were called to fight the fire or aid in hauling water from fill points in Turkey and Shenandoah.
The single block home was a total loss. 1 person was reported to have lived in the home.
Firefighters were at the scene for hours after the fire started.
One person was restrained during the fire after they attempted to enter the burning home about an hour into the incident. He was later released and thanked firefighters for their efforts.

The Gilberton Methodist Church opened its doors to firefighters and residents who lived near the fire to get warm during the incident.
