Mahanoy City hired a new full time police officer Tuesday evening.
During Tuesday's meeting, the Mahanoy City Borough Council made a motion to unanimously hire Rachael Lenar, as a full-time police officer.
Lenar joins the force with 7 years experience under her belt after working in several municipalities in Schuylkill and Luzerne Counties. Lenar also adds an officer to the borough's police force with a Crisis Intervention Team Training certification.
Lenar is a graduate of the Lackwanna College Police Academy.
According to Police Chief Zipovsky, Lenar is also the first female full time police officer hired by the borough in over 20 years.
Mahanoy City Police Chief Kenneth Zipovsky said "The hiring of Officer Lenar is just another example of the dedication and commitment of our elected officials who provide the tools and resources, which allow the police to give the quality police service that the community truly deserves.
