Schuylkill County Commissioner George Halcovage announced Tuesday that he is running for the 9th Congressional Seat in United States Congress.
Halcovage, a Republican, made the announcement at 5:00PM Tuesday at the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville.
Halcovage was elected to the Schuylkill County Commissioners Board in 2012 and was elected as the board's chairman in 2016 and is the vice president at Morgan & Halcovage Insurance in Pottsville.
The United States 9th Congressional District is currently held by Representative Bill Shuster (R), Hollidaysburg.
The 9th District is being moved from Southwestern PA to Eastern Pennsylvania after the district lines were redrawn in February 2018 when the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional.
The new 9th District includes all or parts of the counties of Schuylkill, Carbon, Berks, Lebanon, Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland.
