As part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, the Red Cross Tri-County Chapter installed free smoke alarms.
This morning, 10 different teams, including members of the fire departments and members of the American Red Cross, canvassed borough neighborhoods, installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms, checking working alarms, and helping families create escape plans.
According to Fire Chief Frank Zangari, "Smoke detectors were installed at the top and bottom of stairwells as well as all bedrooms. Three to five detectors were installed in most homes with one needing ten."
The event ran from 8:30am until 3:00pm, Saturday, and by the end, a total of 212 alarms were installed.
Patricia Daley, disaster team captain for the Tri-County chapter of the American Red Cross, said "Thank you to all the volunteers that made this event a huge success".
