Marciann Rich, 52 of Pottsville passed away on Monday April 2nd and the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown.
Born on April 15, 1965 in Pottsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. (Sonny) Minarick and Marciann H. (Vabrinskas) Minarick, who survives her in Port Carbon.
Marciann was a graduate of Nativity B.V. M. High School, class of 1983.
Marciann is survived by her husband of 5 years, Edward L. Rich; daughter Jessica Flamm; son Spencer Flamm; two step-daughters: Alicia Conrad and Kaitlyn Ober; seven grandchildren; sister Annette Buggy; niece Sydney Buggy; and nephew Tristen Buggy

John William Hess, 75, of Deturksville Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at home.
Born on October 30, 1942 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late John W. and Genevieve Huen Hess.
He was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War and was a member of Company B 244th Quartermaster Battalion. He received the Parachutist Badge, Expert Badge (Machine Gun), and the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle-BAR).
John was employed as a Truck Driver for H. R. Ewell, Inc. in East Earl, Pa.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Tremont.
Surviving are his wife of almost 22 years, Sue Running Bear Hess; seven daughters, Emma Jean Hill, Michele Gehman, Gloria Kaiser, Wonda Sturges, Sharon Rodriquiz, annJanette Meyer, Deanna Eastridge; three sons, Jay Hess, John W. Hess, III, Robert Eastridge; 26 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister, Gloria Plesce, brother, Larry Hess.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Locust and Green Sts., Tremont, Pa. with Elder Al Leininger officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Ruth Steinert SPCA, P.O. Box 332, Schuylkill Haven, Pa. 17972 in his memory.

James B. Martin, 68, of West West Terrace, Branch Township, passed away on Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Schuylkill – East.
Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late William Martin, Sr. and the late Ellen Reddington Martin. He attended the former St. Vincent de Paul Parochial School and was a 1967 graduate of Minersville High School. He received his degree in electrical technology from Thaddeus Stevens College in 1970.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served with the Military Police. He continued his military career with the Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1997. One highlight of his military career was his presentation to his unit regarding terrorism – coincidentally given just before 9/11.
He first worked as a lifeguard at the Minersville Community Swimming Pool. He was an electrician for the Wadesville local of the United Mine Workers. He worked briefly for the Central Intelligence Agency. He then took employment as an electrical and commercial inspector with the Department of Labor and Industry. He also worked in the Security Department of the former Pottsville Hospital. Most recently, he was employed by BIU of Pennsylvania.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville. He served on the Minersville Library Board of Directors.
A lifelong athlete, he swam 200 meter laps every day during the summer. He coached CYO basketball for St. Vincent Parochial School and was a PIAA referee for high school basketball. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan, attending at least one game every season for over 20 years.
He enjoyed playing guitar and singing; and enjoyed the music of his generation, including the Beatles and the Kinks.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Donna Yoder Mizzer and his brother, Thomas J. Martin, Sr.
Jim is survived by his wife, the former Frances Leonhardt Bonchack; three stepsons, Randall Mizzer, Buck Run, Craig Mizzer, Minersville, and Robert Bonchack, Baltimore; a grandson, Robert Mizzer; a brother, William J. Martin, Jr., Pottsville; nieces and nephews, including his godchild, Matthew Martin.

John R. “Jack” Harley, Sr., 77, of Saint Clair, passed away on Tuesday at home.
Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Edward and Mary Curran Harley. He attended the former St. Kieran Parochial School before moving to Pottsville, where he was a student at St. Patrick Parochial School. He graduated from Nativity B.V.M. High School in 1959.
He was first employed at Reading Textile and United Metal Receptacle. He worked as a Corrections Officer at the Schuylkill County prison before accepting a position with the Cass Township Police Department, also working, from time to time, for the Saint Clair Police Department. He retired as Cass Township Chief of Police after 25 years of service.
He was an Air Force veteran.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Minersville. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Black Diamond Lodge #80, having served as past president and trustee. He was also vice-president of the Nativity B.V.M. Alumni Association, and also chaired the Association’s annual train raffle until his recent illness. He was a member of the former Duncott Hose Company.
Jack could be found conversing with friends at Hammer’s Garage and at Uni-Mart/Fuel On. He enjoyed playing cards at Big Hill Gun Club, and was fond of the time he spent with dogs.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Joanne Reidler and Edward Harley.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Gloria L. Hatalla; three children, Veronica Harley-Fritz (spouse, Charles), Heckscherville, John R. Harley, Jr. (spouse, Linda Anne), Pottsville, and Harry Harley, Waynesburg; five grandchildren, Zachary Fritz (spouse, Kerry), Aaron Fritz, Cody Lubinsky, Julian Harley and Kateri Harley. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Lechleitner, Minersville; nephews and nieces, including his godchild, Mary Latza.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Irvin and Virginia Long Cook. As a child, he grew up in Phoenix Park and Schaeffer’s Hill; and attended the Duncott School and Minersville schools. He later attended Pottsville schools. His career as a cook involved several local establishments, including the Garfield Diner, the Pine Grove Truck Stop, and the Pottsville Club. He worked at Leiby’s Restaurant for over 20 years. He was last employed by Conewago.
He was a 27-year member of the Humane Fire Company, Pottsville; and was an active firefighter until becoming ill.
Jake enjoyed spending time in Sullivan County, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as the stunning views. restaurants, including before moving to Pottsville in Edward and Mary Curran Harley. He attended the former St. Kieran Parochial School before moving to Pottsville, where he was a student at St. Patrick Parochial School. He graduated from Nativity B.V.M. High School in 1959.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Richard Long, Anne Pugh and Shirley Long.
He is survived by two children, Anthony Alves (companion, Briana Shields), Pottsville, and Emily Cook, Pottsville. He is also survived by two brothers, Sam Cook, Port Carbon, and Jim Cook, Schuylkill Haven; five sisters, Cathy Kadingo, Schuylkill Haven, Lori Cook, Pottsville, Brenda Schneider, Leesport, Nora Foose, Mahanoy City, and Diane Barnyock, Minersville; nieces and nephews.
