Mahanoy City Police identify attacker and provide an update on the victim's condition in a stabbing that occurred in the borough Friday evening.
According to Police Chief Kenneth Zipovsky, on Friday evening around 7:30pm, Mahanoy City Police received a report of a male who was brought by a private vehicle to a Pottsville hospital.
When emergency medical personnel evaluated the patient, it was determined that the male was a victim of an apparent stabbing.
Preliminary information was received that the incident occurred in Mahanoy City.
Police Officers searched for the location of the offense, and evidence documenting an assault was found in the 500 block of East Mahanoy St. The victim is currently receiving emergency medical treatment at the time of this press release. Police were assisted at the scene by the Mahanoy City Fire Police and the Mahanoy Township Police Department.

On Saturday, Chief Zipovsky provided an update on the incident that stated:
The victim, who was treated at a regional trauma hospital, has had his condition upgraded and is currently in stable condition. Evidence obtained throughout this investigation indicates that the individuals involved in this incident were previously known to each other and were associates: this was not a random act.
This is still an active investigation, and the Mahanoy City Police Department are continuing its endeavor to conclude this case.
