Did you know there is a geyser near Ashland?
While this geyser is no Old Faithful or national landmark, it's something interesting to see and most people don't even know it's there.
The geyser is located along Big Mine Run Road in Butler Township near Ashland along the Mahanoy Creek. (See map below for exact location)
According to residents that live nearby and others that have followed history in the area, say that the geyser is actually water coming from the old mining drainage tunnels.
The amount of water coming out varies depending on rainfall.
Those nearby say after a heavy rainfall, or days of rain, the water could shoot up to 20 feet.
