During a special meeting Monday evening, Rush Township hired a new police chief.
The hiring comes after the township's police chief, Joseph Lipsett, passed away unexpectedly on May 26th, 2018.
Township Supervisors reached out to the current Mahanoy City Police Chief Kenneth Zipovsky who had applied for the position when it was open in the past, and offered him the position.
According to Supervisors, Zipovsky accepted.
The hiring was motioned and seconded during the meeting Monday.
Zipovsky will not be leaving Mahanoy City immediately as he will be working both positions while he transitions.
Zipovsky was hired in Mahanoy City back in November and started work in January. He had worked for numerous other law enforcement agencies in Luzerne County prior including Weatherly and West Hazleton.
