Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, Friday, July 13th, at 11 AM, in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Rose Marquart, pastor of the Grace Evangelical Church, Locustdale. Interment will follow in Citizen’s Cemetery, Lavelle. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.

Joseph W. Halko Sr., 90, of Ashland, PA passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at his home. Born in Beaverdale, PA on February 27, 1928 the son of the late William and Kathryn Mannion Halko.
After his parents death, he was raised by Francis and Mary Mannion Doyle in Locust Gap, PA. He graduated from Mount Carmel Twp. High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army 1950 - 1952 during the Korean War and was a Sergeant 1st class and received a Purple Heart. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 38 years and was a former Mount Carmel Item carrier. He was also employed as an Equipment Operator and Mechanic for BB&M.
He was a life member of the American Hose Company No. 1 where he served as Chief Engineer and President, Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Marshall and was the President of the Fireman's Relief. He served as President of the Board for the Pioneer Tunnel. He was one of the original founders of The Men of Brennan for Cardinal Brennan High School, Ashland, PA. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and was a Little League Baseball Coach (Ashland A's).
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Kane Halko, who he married September 2, 1950. Children: Kathryn Halko, Joseph Jr. husband of Marian Halko, Debra wife of Tom "Pud" Palewicz, and Bill husband of Patricia Halko. Grandchildren: Jennifer Burke, Joseph Halko III, Janice Burke, Katie Halko Chuma, Will Halko, Luke Halko, and Sadie Halko. Great grandchildren: Aiden Burke, Breelynn Burke, and Knox Chuma. Cousin: Anna Mae Doyle DeLozier. Nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland, PA, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 12, 2018 with Rev. Paul Rothermel officiating. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ft. Springs, PA. Viewing Thursday, 9:00-11:00 AM at the St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland.

Doris C. Betack, 90, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, where she had been a resident.
Born in Pottsville, Jan. 26, 1928, she was a daughter of the late William and Dorothy Wachter Murray.
She was the widow of Norman T. Betack, who passed away Oct. 29, 2004.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Bevan.
Doris graduated from Pottsville High School, Class of 1946.
She had worked for Bell Telephone and retired from the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 as a teacher's aide.
Doris is survived by two sons, Charles N. Betack and wife, Lynn, Perkasie, Pa., and Robert L. Betack and wife, Christine, New Canaan, Conn., a daughter, Susan D. Dellock and husband, Paul, Frackville; grandchildren, Nicole Roethel, Chase, Zachary, Sarah, Catherine and Jonathan Betack; nephew, Thomas Bevan; step-grandson, James Dellock; step-great-grandchildren, Aidan, Maddison and Caleb Dellock.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, 26 Chestnut St., Cressona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Cressona Cemetery, Cressona.

Gary was born in Pottsville, Feb. 20, 1967, a son of Donna Lengle Adams, Schuylkill Haven, and Gary L. Adams Sr., Womelsdorf.
He is also survived by a sister, Kym Lamberth and husband, Bill, Pine Grove; two brothers, Cory Adams and wife, Terri, Schuylkill Haven, and John Adams and wife, Tamara, Exeter; half sister, Carla Miller and husband, Andy, Womelsdorf; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. To defray the cost of funeral expenses, memorial contributions may be made to Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven.
