Two Families Displaced After Port Carbon Fire on Thursday

Two families are being helped by the Red Cross after a fire in Port Carbon on Thursday.


Just after 1:00pm, Thursday, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 106 Market Street, Port Carbon, for a brush fire that was upgraded to a working structure fire.

The location was the former Encounter's Tavern.

As crews arrived on scene they found heavy fire in the rear of structure.

The fire then spread next door to 108 Market Street.

Both 106 and 108 suffered heavy fire damaged displacing 2 families, including 6 people.

The American Red Cross is help both families with lodging, food, and clothing.

The property at 110 Market Street also suffered smoke and water damage.

It took firefighters almost 2 1/2 hours to bring the fire under control with one firefighter suffering an injury.

Responding to the scene were Port Carbon Fire, Pottsville, Frackville, Englewood, Minersville, and Tuscarora.

Ryan Township responding to the scene for rehab with Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven responding for the Rapid Intervention Team.
