Leindecker Race Engines Sportsman Summer Classic Rescheduled for This Friday at Big Diamond

Leindecker Race Engines presents the Sportsman Summer Classic this Friday August 3rd at Big Diamond Speedway on “Hunt the Giant” night. 40-Lap feature, $5000 to win for the USS Achey Sportsman plus Modifieds, Street Stocks, Road Runners and 600 Modifieds

After being rained out last Friday night, the Leindecker Race Engines Sportsman Summer Classic has been rescheduled for this Friday night August 3rd on “Hunt the Giant Night”. The USS Achey Sportsman will run a 40-lap feature event on Friday with a big $5000 check awaiting the winner of this first-time event.

Current Sportsman points leader and multi-time feature winner Alex Yankowski will lead the charge of the track regulars in pursuit of the big money. Yankowski who just turned 14 years old this week would like nothing better to celebrate his birthday this Friday holding up the big check in victory lane. It won’t be easy for the young teen driver as veterans Craig Whitmoyer and Doug Hendricks who has been very fast lately will be surely be in the hunt for the big bucks as well. Expect a host of outsiders to come up to the Schuylkill County dirt oval looking to steal the big money away from the track regulars.

Along with the $5000 first place prize, the second-place finisher will take home $1000 with $175 to take the green. Total purse for the Sportsman race is $10,600. The race is an open draw event with 150 show-up points being awarded to each team. Teams are encouraged to go to the Big Diamond Speedway website www.bigdspeedway.net to pre-register for the race. The cost to pre-register is $20. Day of the event registration is $40.

The Mattera’s Electrical & General Contracting 358 Modifieds will take a well deserved back seat this week as the Sportsman Summer Classic will be the headline show of the night. With points leader Ryan Godown’s DNF two weeks ago, the points race has tightened up considerably. Godown now only leads Duane Howard and Craig Von Dohren by a few markers as they battle down the homestretch in search of the track title. It should be quite a finish as we approach the last month of the season as these three superstar drivers battle for track supremacy.

Rounding out the night events will be the always exciting Savage 61 Road Runners and the No Sweat Service Group Street Stocks. Both divisions are very competitive and sure give the fans plenty to cheer about as the battle side by side throughout their respective feature events. An added bonus to Friday’s schedule will be the 600 Modifieds who always put on some good racing for the fans.

There will be live music for the fans along with free ice cream while supplies last!

General admission for this Friday night is $25, Seniors $23. Kids 11 & 12 are $10 with kids under 10 and under admitted free. As always active Military with ID are free.

Gates open at 5:30 with warmups getting underway at 7:30
