The National Weather Service has issued a Small Stream Flood Advisory for Schuylkill County.
Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Central Schuylkill County in central Pennsylvania...
* Until 700 PM EDT.
* At 459 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to very slow
moving thunderstorms over eastern Schuylkill County. Radar
estimates that some areas between Shenandoah, Mahanoy City and
Tuscarora have received over 1 inch of rain in the past hour, with
another inch possible between 5 and 6 pm. Over portions of western
and central Schuylkill County, less than one half inch of rain has
fallen, but thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain are
expected to develop shortly in these areas as well. This rain will
cause small stream flooding in the advisory area.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Pottsville, Tamaqua, Shenandoah, Minersville, Mahanoy City,
Frackville, St. Clair, Ashland, Mcadoo, Port Carbon, Tremont,
Girardville, Hometown, Tuscarora, New Philadelphia, Oneida, Grier
City-Park Crest, Lavelle, Marlin and Altamont.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
