“I am pleased I was able to play a role in obtaining the funding for these worthy projects,” said Tobash. “Properly maintained bridges and roadways are critical to our region’s overall safe travels. It’s always good to see state money coming back into our local communities to benefit the quality of life for us all.”
Hegins Township received a $479,098 grant through the Multimodal Transportation Fund to replace Forest Drive bridge, an existing one-lane bridge that spans Deep Creek. The bridge is in poor condition with deteriorated concrete facing with exposed stones at water’s edge.
Washington Township received a $477,602 grant also through the Multimodal Transportation Fund to replace the deteriorating bridge along Kutz Road, north of its intersection with Sweet Arrow Lake Road. The funding will also remove the existing 29-ton load posting.
Tobash advocated for the funding to help tackle the area’s backlog of needed bridge repairs. The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to Pennsylvania residents. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities.
“This is wonderful news for the people of Schuylkill County,” said Tobash. “It has been a priority of mine for a long time and now these much-needed restorations will become a reality. I am pleased that these bridges are going to be repaired, which will make the local area safer for motorists.”
