According to Chief Richard Wojiechowsky, on Monday 11/19/18 around 12:50am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the 300 block of West Market Street for a reported assault.
In that area officers located a 38 year old woman who had serious visible bruising on her face and body. The woman reported to police that Braxton John Moore, 36, of Pottsville had repeatedly assaulted her with a rock and a tree branch, as well as his hands and feet, in a wooded area near 8th and Pierce Streets during an attack that had begun at around 3:00pm after the two had walked there.
The victim told officers that Moore had physically prevented her from leaving the area by removing her clothing and tying it to trees despite the cold temperature. He had also held her down and at one point placed his hands over her mouth and nose blocking her ability to breathe.
The victim also reported that at around 10:00pm, Moore had allowed her to put clothing back on intending to leave the area.
But instead he continued the restraint and assault.
Finally, 12:30am Moore allowed the woman to walk away with him and she was able to flee from him in the 400 block of W. Market Street and go into a friend’s nearby residence to escape Moore and have 911 called while Moore fled the area.
The woman was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of her injuries.
Police were able to identify the area described by the woman where the assault occurred and recovered several items of clothing that she confirmed were her own.
A criminal complaint was prepared by Ptlm Stephen Delinko charging Moore with Kidnap to Inflict Injury/Terror, Strangulation, Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Restraint, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Harassment.
Moore is approximately 5’8” and 160lbs.
Anyone with information on the current location of Moore is asked to call the Pottsville Bureau of Police at 570-628-3792.
