Pottsville Man Charged with Burglarizing and Stealing Vehicle from Car Dealership

A Pottsville man has been charged for breaking into and stealing a car from a car dealership.


According to Police, on Saturday 12/08/18 around 10:30am Pottsville Police were dispatched to 2174 W. Market Street, Bob Weaver Chevrolet, to investigate a reported burglary. On scene officers learned that an unknown actor(s) had forced entry into the building sometime between 6:00pm on 12/07 and 6:45am 12/08 and stolen a credit card and a PA vehicle registration plate of “H15634H”. Preliminary information showed that a dark colored SUV may have been used by the actor during the incident.

On Thursday December 13, 2018 at 8:14am,  Pottsville Police were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle parked at Sharp Mountain Plaza located on the Gordon Nagle Trail.

The vehicle a 2014 black Ford Explorer matched the description of a vehicle involved in a burglary at a warehouse owned by Bob Weaver Auto on 12/08/18.

Police canvassed the businesses and learned that a white male who identified himself as "Josh" drove the vehicle to this location the day before and he returned earlier this morning in an older model white sedan. Officers later observed an older model white sedan being driven into the parking lot without an inspection sticker.

Police made contact with the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, Joshua David Kopinetz , 31, of Pottsville.

Kopinetz was positively identified as the person who had previously driven the black Ford Explorer onto the property. During the subsequent investigation Kopinetz admitted to having committed the burglary on 12/08/18 and a criminal complaint was prepared by Ptlm. Joseph Krammes charging Kopinetz with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and access device fraud.

Kopinetz was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Reiley and bail was set at $20,000.00. Kopinetz unable to post bail was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison.

Krammes will also be filing separate charges on Kopinetz for a person not possess a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, fraudulent inspection sticker, two counts of unauthorized transfer or use of registration plates based on the investigation into the suspicious vehicle on 12/13/18.

A preliminary hearing was held on December 19, 2018 where the charges were waived for court.
