Veronica “Vera” (Opanel) Tedesco, 91, of Shenandoah, passed away on Sunday evening at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Pattersonville, September 2, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Kowalonek) Opanel.

She was a graduate of Conyngham Township High School.

Vera was employed for 25 years at the former General Cigar Factory, Mahanoy City, as a floor lady and then prior to her retirement at the former F.W. Woolworth Co., Shenandoah.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former St. Stanislaus Church. Vera was an avid football fan; however, she most treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Louis Tedesco, in 1999; five brothers, Joseph, John, Anthony, Walter and Vince Opanel; five sisters, Sophie Zelinauskas, Victoria Novatka, Helen Charnick, Jennie Opanel and Stella Opanel.

Surviving are two sons, James T. Tedesco and his wife, Kathryn, Shenandoah, and Michael Tedesco and his wife, Louise, Shenandoah Heights; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Tedesco and his wife, Nina, Ringtown, Gino Tedesco and his wife, Katie, Barnesville, Vanessa Tedesco, Shenandoah Heights, and Dominic Tedesco, Shenandoah Heights; two great-grandsons, Victor Tedesco and Austin Tedesco; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, the Sacred Worship Site of Divine Mercy Parish, with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held from 8 until 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
