Elizabeth M. “Betty” Dougherty, 84, lifelong resident of Girardville passed away peacefully on Friday morning at her home.
Born in Girardville, she was a daughter of the late John and Blanch Dyer Wayne. She worked as the Girardville Tax Collector from 1977 until her retirement in 2016.
Betty was a graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School, Girardville and McCann School of Business, Mahanoy City. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland, a member of the former Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Saint Cecilia, Girardville and the Girardville Good Time Club.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph T. Dougherty.
Betty is survived by her daughter Mary Beth Dougherty, Girardville; her two sisters: Jean Dern, Springfield, OH and Claire Dewey of Silver Spring, MD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Girardville, con-celebrated by Rev. Edmund Brennan and Rev. Paul Rothermel. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made, in Betty’s name, to the Girardville Good Time Club in care of Todd Selgrade at 1 Powder Mill Road, Girardville, PA 17935.

Janet Elaine Dietrich (Tobias), 81 of Cressona, passed away among her loved ones, on Wednesday December 26th. Janet was born on November 6 1937. A daughter of the late Cora (Kline) and Samuel Tobias. She was a member of Bible Tabernacle Church, Schuylkill Haven.
Janet worked as a supervisor at Craftex Mills in Auburn Pa followed by Auburn Apparel until her retirement.
Janet is survived by her Daughter Traci Dietrich of Cressona, and her Son Bruce Dietrich of Pottsville, and Daughter-in law Merijo Dietrich of Orwigsburg. As well as Brother Jay Tobias and Sister Joanne Romig. Janet's Grandchildren are Harrison Dietrich husband of Michelle, Samantha Wife of Zachary Ellwood, and Amanda Dietrich. A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Thursday January 3rd at Hamilton Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., of Orwigsburg. Memorial gathering from 10 am until the time of service.
