Ashland Police Charge Two with Forging Thousands of Dollars Worth of Prescriptions

A man and woman from Ashland are facing charges after police learned they were forging or receiving prescriptions fraudulently.


According to Ashland Police Chief Gerard Daley, on March 13th, 2019, he received notification from Visualize Change Outpatient Therapy, in Ashland, that two prior patients were found to be forging Doctor's names and receiving fraudulent prescriptions.

The two individuals were identified as Carol Talanca, 37, and Edward Barnes, 43, both of Walnut Street, Ashland.

According to Daley, Talanca received forms that were provided by Cornerstone Coordinated Health Care in Frackville and to be filled out by Visual Change.  Instead, Talanca forged the doctor's name on the form and sent it back to Cornerstone, even though she had not been a patient since September of 2017.  Talanca reportedly did this 11 times between October of 2017 and July of 2018 and received $4,112.57 worth of Suboxone.

Daley also said that, Barnes received forms that were provided by Cornerstone Coordinated Health Care in Frackville and to be filled out by Visual Change.  Instead, Barnes forged the doctor's name on the form and sent it back to Cornerstone, even though he had not been a patient since September of 2017.  Barnes reportedly did this 12 times between October of 2017 and December of 2018 and received $3,776.85 worth of Suboxone.

Chief Daley filed charges at Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale's Office on Wednesday charging Talanca with 11 counts of felony charges of Acquisition or obtain of possession of a controlled substance, 11 counts of misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance,1 count of theft by deception.

Daley also charged Barnes with 12 counts of felony charges of Acquisition or obtain of possession of a controlled substance, 12 counts of misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance,1 count of theft by deception.

Arrest warrants have been issued for both individuals.
