The meeting was opened by Council President Thom Maziekas with the floor being open for public comment. No comments were made.
Another resident had another issue with a neighbor putting out their garbage near her kitchen window and it smelled. The borough code enforcement officer Bill Killian responded that the person responsible has already been sent a "notice of violation".
A reading and approval of last month's meeting minutes were motioned and seconded.
All reports from borough officers were approved.
The council accepted bids for two borough trucks
- A 2006 Chevy 3500 Dump Truck for $2,550.00 to Kevin Huber, of New Tripoli
- A 1985 International Dump Truck for $625.00 to Michael Edmiston, of Woodbury
A motion was made and approved to hire Mark Wiekrykas as part-time Chief of Police. With a vote of 4-1, the motion passed.
Councilman Thomas McCabe was the lone "no" vote with Councilman Kline and Councilman Flamini not present.
A motion was made to appoint the Borough Manager, Cindy Soley as temporary secretary during the secretary's absence. The motion was approved
A motion was made and approved to adopt resolution 2019-3 authoring the adoption of an emergency vehicle police applicable to all drivers/operators of borough vehicles owned, partially owned and/or insure by the Borough of Mahanoy City. The motion was approved.
A motion was made to accept a Repository Bid Requests for 1315 E Mahanoy Street; Owner Catherine Garon; bidder is Lee Williams with a bid of $1,304.00. The motion was approved.
A motion was made to accept 3 Handicap applications. The motion was approved.
Vice President Burke read a letter from the Girardville St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee Requesting Police the day of the parade. The motion was approved.
