Shenandoah Man Charged for Strangling Woman


Shenandoah Police have charged a borough man for strangling a woman on Monday.


According to Shenandoah Chief of Police, George Carado, on Monday, March 18, 2019 around 9:30am, Shenandoah Police were dispatched for a domestic disturbance at 205 West Centre St Apt2. where a female could be heard yelling for help.

Police say Matthew Strefan Galarza, 23, of Shenandoah had assaulted his 26 year old, pregnant girlfriend after pushing her against a wall and choking her. He threatened her life and stated he wasn’t afraid to go to jail. The female tried to leave several times but Galarza blocked her exit.

Galarza was charged with Strangulation, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, harassment, and other charges and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker. Galarza was taken to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $25,000 percentage bail.
