John J. McGuire, 90, of Shenandoah, passed away on Sunday, April 21st at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community. Born in Shenandoah on March 18th, 1929 to the late John F. and Anna T. “Kilty” McGuire.
John was a US Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. After the service, he worked as a bus driver for Shenandoah Suburban Bus Company, STS, and drove truck hauling coal. John was a member of the Phoenix Fire Company and a member of the former AMVETS and A.O.H.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie D. Grutza in 1998, and 2 sisters, Betty Dower and Ann Marie Mcguire.
Surviving are 1 son, John T. McGuire with his wife Peggy – Ringtown, 1 daughter, Debbie Salvadore with her husband Tom – Shenandoah, 1 sister, Mary Theresa Hoffman – Mahanoy City, 3 grandchildren, Thomas Salvadore, Nicki Fahringer with her husband Peter, and Kristie Jacavage with her husband, Mark, 2 great grandchildren, Jenna Jacavage and Owen Fahringer, nieces and nephews also survive.
Scripture services will take place on Thursday, April 25th at 10:30am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah with Msgr. Ronald Bocian officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday morning from 8 to 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Casimir’s Parish Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Alice J Morgan, age 75, of Valley View, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the home of her son in Harrisburg.
She was born on Wednesday, July 28, 1943, in Hubley Twp, a daughter of the late Daniel A Shade and the late Betty J Wolfgang Shade.
She was a 1961 graduate of Tri-Valley High School.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento.
Alice enjoyed painting ceramics and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband Homer J "Schnick" Morgan passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Sandra Rhody.
She is survived by two sons, Mark L Morgan and his wife Beth of Harrisburg and Randy L Morgan and his wife Sara of Williamstown; two grandsons, Joseph Morgan and Christopher Morgan; four granddaughters, Jessica Buckingham, Amanda Morgan, Abbie Peng, and Ellen Morgan; seven great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; a brother, Dale Shade of Spring Glen; a sister, Linda Stehr of Valley View; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Friday, April 26, 2019, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Raymond Holland officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento.

Joanne Hepler, 87, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Friday, April 19th, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Schuylkill, E. Norwegian St., Pottsville.
Born on June 15, 1931, she was a daughter of the late John & Florence (Hahner) Bentz.
She was the widow of Sterling "Skeet" Hepler.
Skeet and Joanne loved to travel. For 20 years they drove back and forth to Arizona where they had a home and spent the winters there. Also enjoyed a trip to Germany for the Passion Play with St. John the Baptist Church, a trip to Alaska and a Mexican Cruise.
Joanne was previously employed at the former Good Samaritan Hospital in the medical records department, the office of Dr. Croley and United Cerebral Palsey. She was last employed at Scott Millwork along with her husband and co-owner, until they bother retired.
She was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville, where she was baptized, went to grade school and married, lifetime member of the former Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and the St. John's Catholic Women's Union.
She was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School, Class of 1949.
She is survived by a step daughter, Loren Reichert & husband, Bill, Cressona, a step son, Duane Hepler & wife, Nancy, Cressona, two step grandchildren: Jason Hepler & wife, Crystal, Harrisburg, and Melissa Hepler, Baltimore, two step great-grandchildren: Caleb & Caden Hepler, sister Lois Desch and husband Ed, Arizona, brothers John and wife Pat, New Jersey and Robert and wife Donna, Pottsville, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose RCC, Schuylkill Haven, on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
Interment will immediately follow mass at Cressona Cemetery,Cressona.

George W. Cody, Sr., 81, of Pottsville died Saturday at The Gardens at York Terrace Nursing Home, Pottsville.
He was born April 10, 1938 in Pottsville son of the late William and Dorothy Gauntlet Cody.
He was a graduate of Pottsville High School. He was a veteran of the Navy.
Prior to retiring he was employed by the Pottsville Area School District.
George was a member of Walter Griffiths AMVETS Post 180 and a life member of American Hose Fire Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Williams Cody; a daughter, Debra Cody: Surviving are 2 sons, George W. Cody, Jr. and his wife Debbie, Pottsville; William “B.J.” Cody, Pottsville. 5 grandchildern, Megan Alessi, Sammi Chivinski, Jesse Whitecavage, Nick and Billy Cody; 1 great-granddaughter, Sloan Chivinski; 3 sisters, Janet, Shirley and Dorothy.

He was a graduate of Pottsville High School. He was a veteran of the Navy.

William Arthur Degler, 91, passed away Saturday, April 20th, at Providence Place Retirement Community, Pottsville.
Bill was formerly of East Brunswick Township. He was born in Orwigsburg, on December 2, 1927, a son of the late Katie Fietta (Smith) and Arthur Dewey Degler. He was the widower of Nancy Lou (Dunkel) Degler. They were married for 64 years. She passed away April 14th. Bill followed her to Heaven, lovingly, 6 days later.
Bill was a Graduate of Orwigsburg High School, class of 1946 and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as an Auditor for PMA Insurance and was a member of Masonic Lodge #138 and was a lifetime member of the NRA Bill is survived by his son William, husband of Kimberly Degler of Schuylkill Haven; Granddaughter Katie Degler McNulty and her husband Andrew, Great grandson Conar McNulty.
Bill was predeceased by sisters Ruth Peters, Miriam Mitchell and Mary Skorupski.
A Religious Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 3rd at Hamilton - Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Orwigsburg, with Pastor Steward Warner officiating. The public is invited to call from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will be private.
