On Tuesday, the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation announced the 2019 recipients of the James J. and Mary Edith Rhoads Foundation Scholarship.
According to Marybeth Matz, The scholarships are awarded annually to qualified Schuylkill County high school seniors planning to further their education. Students must exhibit a commitment to education, citizenship, and community. Each will receive a $2,000 scholarship to defray the costs towards their higher education and pursue their dreams.

The recipients are as follows:
- Emily Amershek, a graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, will attend St. Joseph’s University of Scranton to major in Biochemistry
- Emily Ferraro, a graduate of Williams Valley Jr/Sr High School will attend Shippensburg University to major in Biology/Ecology;
- Emily Demalis, a graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School, will attend the Pennsylvania State University - Schreyer Honors College to major in Biomedical Engineering.
