Woman Taken into Custody After Three Vehicle Accident on Interstate 81 Last Friday

A woman was taken into custody after she caused a three vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Frailey Township last Friday.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, around 4:15pm, troopers responded to a 3 vehicle crash on Interstate 81 North in the area of Mile Marker 109.4 in Frailey Township.

An investigation revealed that Sarah McGinley, 33, of Bloomsburg, was in a Volkswagen 2.5 and was travelling behind a Freightliner 999 being operated by Rodney Childs, 59, of Peru, NY.

McGinley also had a 6 and 1 year old in the vehicle with her.

McGinley attempted to pass Childs, and as she moved into the passing lane, she struck the passenger side of a BMW X5 being operated by Cassandra Mellow, 36, of Whitinsville, MA.

McGinley lost control of the vehicle and struck the trailer of the Freightliner and became lodged underneath.

While Police were interviewing McGinley, Troopers noticed signs of impairment.  A standardized filed sobriety tests were administered and she was taken into custody..

Mellow was the only person reported to suffer any injuries but she refused treatment.

Assisting at the scene were the Donaldson Fire Company and Minersville EMS.
